A flan dish is ideal for making flans, tarts and quiches, this is why they are often known as quiche tins. A flan dish conventionally has two distinctive features, a loose bottom to aid removal of the food and most importantly fluted sides. The sides of a sponge flan tin are also usually slightly slanted rather than being totally vertical.
